Ashley,
I don't think you read this anymore. And for some reason, your birthday notes always involve pictures of you and Paz trying out various lesbian sex positions.
But anyway:

Happy 21st. I miss you!

I haven't actually updated with much more than photos or vague anecdotes in a while, but things have been pretty tops lately.
This morning, I found out I got straight A's for the semester, and then I did a sweet bike ride to downtown where I sort-of started my internship at Metro Magazine. I also got the Daily summer reporter position, so I'll continue to be knee-deep in arts & entertainment all over again, putting out issues each week with my two new editors. A few days ago, I secured a sublet with, coincidentally, one of my Cultural Studies TAs. She'll be sharing her huge, lovely apartment near Cedar and Lake with me for parts of June and August, and the rest of the time will be in New York and Brazil. She's great, the area's great, and moving to a new place will be great, even if it's only temporary.
Now, my car's getting fixed, my bags are nearly packed, and tomorrow the Blake and I are road trippin' to Chicago to hang with the very best, and then Milwaukee to further encourage our gay-ass crushes on Steven Patrick Morrissey. Until he actually takes the stage, however, I'm not convinced he's a real person, just a dandy asexual...cell, or something, so we'll see.
But yeah. Some of my favorite people will be gone (and others leaving shortly thereafter) and I'll likely be working a million jobs to keep enough lettuce, but so far it seems like all signs this summer might not point to suck.

Wow. This picture is a lot of Mark.

Anyway, happy birthday. You are like a brother to me.

Today was already shaping up to be a pretty not-so-great day.
Then, I got hit by a car on my bike.

I was waiting for you. Virtue's not a bad suit of clothes, but we need quite a figure to fill it.

After some inquiry, it seems like this may be the best plan of action for everyone. Consider this your formal invitation:
What: "We'll always have Chicago."
When: The first weekend in March (Friday, the 2nd through Sunday, the 4th).
Where: The vibrating heart-shaped beds of various XHSTKers.
Why: 'Cuz I'll be there with my booty shorts on.
Addendum: So should you.
Haaaaaay.

To all who were planning on the "We'll Always Have February 16th-18th" Chicago trip:
I know that Leah is now unable to attend, as she has RA matters to attend to.
Mark will be seeing lots of vagina "monologues" in St. Louis for most of the weekend.
Madeleine, Elizabeth, Christopher...where do you stand?
The reason I inquire is because Mark had suggested possibly moving it the weekend after, from February 23rd to the 25th. That way, everyone could possibly hang out TO THE MAX.
Does this work better for others? For me, it's just a matter of letting my boss know whether or not I can work.
Discuss!

A failed home internet connection for the past few days prevented me from posting this sooner, but I digress.
I just wanted to wish a big happy birthday to Madeleine, one of my best friends in the whole wide world, and a newly christened big ole' drunk.

I also just wanted to put this picture up because it makes me feel funny "down there".
I miss you, woman. Thanksgiving break can't come soon enough.

Attention friends:
MEIN HANDI IST KAPUT.
Randomly last evening, my phone decided to be devoid of sound. I can hear my ring when people call me, but that's about it. My keys don't work, and when I pick up the phone or try and call someone back, neither party can hear anything but dead silence.
So how 'bout that, huh?
If anyone needs to try and get a hold of me this weekend, it will probably be best to call my mom's phone at 920-205-5098. She'll be coming into town with the sibs today around 3:30, so feel free to try anytime after that.
I'm probably going to have to get a new phone. UGH UGH UGH.
Maybe one of those TOTES SWEET HOT PINK MOTO RZRS LOL RITE?!?!!?!

So in my attemps to be good from now on this semester, I set a goal to both a) attend all my classes this week and beyond, and b) not procrastinate with any homework that may be assigned from them. How awesome, then, that having my first class at 12:20 cancelled today means that I can run errands! Even MORE awesome, however, is making sure I wrap them up perfectly on time to attend my second and final class of the day at 2:25!
Until I remembered that it actually starts at 1:25! Just like it does any other day! Three times a week! And I remembered this at 2:10, when it was five minutes from finishing! And they take attendance, so I'll probably lose points!
It's fantastic to be such a huge dumbass.

My editor offered me a free ticket to TV On The Radio tonight.
After careful consideration, I reluctantly turned it down to study for my Anthropology midterm and allow myself enough sleep in order to open Royale at 6am tomorrow.
I would say this is probably the shittiest thing ever, except that I really do need to crack down. I've fallen way too far behind on homework especially, so I suppose this is my punishment for being such an idiot so early on in the semester.
UGH. Okay. It IS the shittiest thing ever. I can't even imagine TV On The Radio live. CANNOT. Fuck fuck fuck.
Alright. Focus.
Gonna get myself into it! Gonna get myself into it! Gonna get myself into it! Why not help me do it?

Consider this the letter I never had the guts to finish and give to John Darnielle the first time I saw him play.
